Betty
Wille
1955-2005
On February 18, 2005 we were very sorry to report that the
Aerodrome lost one of its most vibrant supporters. Chad Wille’s
wife Betty passed away of cancer. She was 49.

Well known throughout
the antique aircraft community Betty was instrumental in organizing
the massive library of the Antique Airplane Association. She enjoyed
flying her Corben Baby Ace and her Hot Air Balloon. Betty had a vast
knowledge of women in aviation history, most notably Amelia Earhart.
She could be seen along the Aerodrome flight line dressed in the famous
purple outfit of Pioneer pilot Harriet Quimby, and would occasionally
taxi our 1909 Bleriot to the delight of spectators. She’d get
right into the heart of anything mechanical whether aircraft or antique
cars and spent many long hours organizing and sorting out parts in the
Aerodrome shop and barn. No task was too challenging. Her positive energy
even during her toughest time was an inspiration to us all.
Chad her husband said, “Betty
had many careers and excelled at them all. She was a musician, veteran,
aircraft restorer, gardener, pilot, medical assistant, just to name
a few. She had a rich life.”
I know the membership will share with us in expressing to Chad our most
heartfelt sympathy.
“Be open to your dreams
and embrace that distant shore. For life’s mortal journey is
over too soon.”
Betty Wille fly high, you will be
missed.
